Today marks another milestone in my career as I leave Adatis after a really excellent 18 months and start my next challenge with Altius.
Through our brilliant data platform community, my growing reputation has given me the privilege of choosing my next employer. Something that I feel incredibly humbled by, as I have been approached by almost every consulting giant in our industry over the last few months!
To offer some perspective on this, I will share with you part of my past employment history; about 10 years ago I found myself unemployed and joining the Job Centre line in Taunton, facing some tough life decisions. I recall those dark times living meal to meal and I think its important for me not to forget that. Now moving forward I’m proud to have received my third MVP award from Microsoft. and to be approached by another international London based consultancy that had no issue in offering me a very competitive salary for my skill set… How did I get so lucky!
I’m not religious, but I do believe in fate…
the development of events outside a person’s control, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power
For me that supernatural power comes from giving: to charity, to the community, to others and being selfless. Or translated (in my opinion), work hard, play hard, give back and you will be rewarded.
To take stock of that mentality I find myself not just taking another milestone in my career but in my personal life as well.
My wife Christine and I, as you may know, had our first baby daughter in December, Thea is now 7 months old and a complete bundle of joy!
- Our growing family has just moved house to be closer to grandparents and to get back to that quiet little village life style near to where I grew up.
- I’m now about to start my new role as Principal Consultant at Altius.
This massive amount of stress coupled with extreme excitement and joy has probably aged me terribly but in the long term will be totally worth it!
As with most things I don’t consider this all my own doing, the credit goes to those around me for there support, for pushing me and basically putting up with my grumpy attitude 🙂
Thank you everyone, I couldn’t of done it without you.
Here’s to the next 10 years!
